We are proud to introduce our 42nd Sunday Spotlight, featuring Lacey Brown who is a teacher in Ringgold, Georgia. Lacey loves helping her students find the fun in math and strives to make difficult concepts more accessible for them. She uses Edulastic to analyze data more quickly and especially likes that she can insert math functions into the platform. In her free time you’ll find her traveling and spending time outdoors. Get to know Lacey Brown
What do you love about working in education? What motivates you?
I love making math “easy” for my students! Most students grow up absolutely hating math and it’s hard teaching the subject most students struggle with. I make it a goal every day to take difficult concepts and make them easier to understand for my students. Seeing students finally feel good about math again is truly an awesome feeling.
Why did you become a teacher?
Growing up I always loved math and loved playing school. When I was in high school, I actually never considered teaching. I thought I wanted to go to pharmacy school. 2 years into college, I changed paths and it was the best decision ever!
What is your “Edulastic story”?
I was just learning how to integrate technology into my math classroom when I was asked to pilot 1:1 devices with my students before a county roll out the following year. I had no idea how I was going to do that or what resources to use so I began following a colleague’s Google Classroom page at another school. I saw her post a link to a test in Edulastic and, being nosey, I clicked on it. That was all it took. From that point, I have given every assessment in Edulastic and never looked back!
Describe your Edulastic “aha” moment.
Being a data driven teacher, and now in a data driven county, Edulastic was the perfect fit for me! I hated spending hours grading exams and this would grade instantly for me, allowing me to spend more time analyzing the data! I love that Edulastic is so “math friendly” because it is very difficult to find platforms that allow math functions to be inserted and used so easily! Take time to explore all features in Edulastic and experiment with new types of questions. Don’t spend all of your time creating new questions, browse the bank! The question bank in Edulastic is full of awesome higher DOK level questions so utilize this. It wasn’t until I did this that I began saving time using Edulastic!
