We are proud to introduce our 48th Sunday Spotlight, featuring Angela Hansen who is a teacher in Vernal, Utah. Angela likes using Edulastic to create end-of-year practice assessments. She loves helping her students apply what they learn in their science classroom to the real world, and encourages them to celebrate their mistakes. Her favorite time of year is March when, as a teacher in Vernal School District, she gets to celebrate and teach about the vernal equinox! Get to know Angela Hansen 

 

What do you love about working in education? What motivates you? 

I love helping other people discover their talents, strengthen their strengths & WEAKNESSES, and push themselves to their full potential.

Why did you become a teacher? 

I was interested in teaching because my 1st grade teacher never gave up on me. She worked with me until I was successful in all subjects. I became a teacher because the Dean of Education at the college I attended told me he wouldn’t let me into the Education Program. He said I wouldn’t be an effective teacher because I was too quiet. I NEVER let others decide my future for me!

What is your “Edulastic story”? 

I was told about Edulastic from a colleague I admire.

Describe your Edulastic “aha” moment.

When I looked into the Edulastic program I saw that it closely resembled the set-up my students see in their State End-of-Year Assessment. No other program comes close!

What are your teaching/learning goals this year?

I want my students to be curious and enjoy finding the science around them. I want my students to be able to apply what we are learning at school in their everyday lives.

Reading, traveling, and learning new things


Greatest accomplishment in the classroom this past year: 

 Surviving implementing a new curriculum!

Favorite time of the school year and why:

March – We get to celebrate the VERNAL equinox. (In 6th grade we learn about what causes the seasons and we live in Vernal.)
