There’s no reason to be nervous about Missouri state testing when you have the proper MAP test practice. Today, with the proliferation of online assessments, it’s more important than ever that your students get the practice they need to be ready for the MAP test.
What is that practice exactly?
Short answer: Virtual MAP practice tests.
For the long answer, keep reading to find out everything you need to know about MAP tests, MAP test practice, and the best way to prepare your students.

What is MAP?

The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) is an annual assessment program covering subjects in grades 3 through 12. The summative and end-of-course assessments test student learning against Missouri’s Learning Standards (MLS) to identify individual strengths and weaknesses while measuring education quality across the state.
MAP tests cover the following subjects and grade levels:
  • English language arts (grades 3–8)
  • Mathematics (grades 3–8)
  • Science (grades 5 and 8)
  • End-of-course exams
    • Required: Algebra I, Biology, English II, and Government.
    • Optional: Algebra II, American History, English I, Geometry, Personal Finance, and Physical Science.
Missouri high school students who completed the Algebra I EOC exam before entering high school must take the Algebra II EOC exam as their high school mathematics assessment. All MAP assessments are administered online unless a student’s IEP or 504 plan requires unique accommodation.
Missouri students with significant cognitive disabilities may take the Missouri Assessment Program-Alternate Assessment (MAP-A) instead of the standard MAP assessment if they qualify. MAP-A uses the Dynamic Learning Map (DLM), with English language arts and mathematics assessments integrated into instruction throughout the school year and a year-end assessment administered for science. MAP-A assesses students in the same subjects and grade levels as the standard MAP assessments, with high school testing limited to ELA, math, and science for qualifying grade 11 students.
Missouri also administers the ACCESS for ELLs to all English learners in grades K through 12. The Kindergarten ACCESS is paper-based; grades 1 through 12 take the online assessment, and grades 1 through 3 take the writing portion in a paper booklet. English language learners with severe cognitive disabilities who qualify for the MAP-A assessment take the Alternate ACCESS for ELLs. Both tests measure English language proficiency.

Why Virtual Practice Tests Are the Best MAP Test Practice

As computer-based assessments, MAP tests go beyond old-fashioned multiple choice with technology-enhanced questions. Utilizing special digital features like drag-and-drop, dropdown, graph building, and table filling, these virtual tests require students to engage their knowledge of the test subject along with their digital know-how and problem-solving skills for a deeper assessment of their learning.
What is the best way to prepare? Virtual MAP test practice.
With virtual MAP test practice, your students will hone the skills they need to navigate through the test, nimbly answering questions and demonstrating their thought processes along the way. They’ll learn the ins and outs of digital testing, understand the questions they’ll encounter on the real MAP tests, and practice solving problems and reasoning through answers on the screen.
As a bonus, have your students practice for MAP tests on the same device they’ll use on test day. Testing technology can look different on a tablet versus a laptop or a desktop computer, so practicing on the same device will ensure that your students aren’t caught off-guard by the real test. They’ll know exactly what to expect and how to appropriately interact with the elements on screen without mishaps.
Along with building your students’ virtual testing skills, MAP test practice will help them build confidence that they’ll carry into test day. Thanks to their favorite teacher, those test-taking butterflies will be replaced with an excitement to show off everything they’ve learned.
